Protective Coating Engineer -Technical Coordination

Position summary

Technical coordination and site support

• Review project specifications, drawings, procedures, coating systems, and manufacturer product and technical data sheets.
• Interpret surface preparation, blasting, surface profile, coating sequence, primer and topcoat, mixing, DFT/WFT, environmental, curing, recoating, repair, and touch-up requirements.
• Provide technical clarification and field support in line with approved specifications, procedures, and applicable standards.
• Coordinate with project parties and support coating procedures, method statements, and technical clarification documents.
• Support blasting, surface preparation, and coating work; coordinate with QC personnel and inspectors to meet approved requirements.
• Resolve field coating problems, monitor progress, identify schedule-impacting issues, and follow up technical actions.
• Support offshore modification, maintenance, and repair activities on platforms and vessels.

Materials and procurement

• Identify coating material needs based on specifications, drawings, coating systems, and construction scope.
• Prepare or support material take-offs, material requisitions, and procurement lists for coating work.
• Review material compliance and coordinate availability, technical compliance, and deliveries with Procurement, Construction, and relevant parties.

Experience and competencies

• At least five years of relevant protective coating or painting field experience in oil and gas, offshore engineering, EPC, fabrication, or construction.
• Practical experience with offshore or oil and gas coating systems and both technical coordination and site execution support; inspection-only experience is not sufficient.
• Read and understand English project specifications, procedures, coating specifications, and manufacturer technical documents independently.
• Understand coating systems, surface preparation, abrasive blasting, cleanliness, surface profiles, coating composition, mixing, application, curing, intervals, DFT, and system build-up.
• Identify coating materials and quantities for material lists or MTOs; communicate with project parties and resolve site execution issues.
• Experience with offshore platforms, fabrication yards, brownfield, maintenance, repair, or revamp projects is preferred.
• Major operator, EPC, engineering-company, or offshore-construction experience is preferred; Middle East project experience is advantageous.

Education and certification

• A bachelor's degree or higher in engineering is preferred; strong practical coating experience and recognized professional coating certifications may also be considered.
• At least one recognized coating inspection certification at Level/Grade 2 or above is required, such as AMPP/NACE, FROSIO, or CSWIP (ex-BGas).
• Familiarity with ISO, SSPC/AMPP, and NORSOK requirements is preferred.

Workplace and employment

• The role requires frequent business travel and offshore work on vessels and platforms.
• Employment is through a third-party HR agency contract, with services provided to COOEC.
