Product Owner

• Set an ambitious and clear product vision and communicate it effectively to stakeholders, the team, and the rest of the unit.

• Manage end-to-end team output strategy from inception to production.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure digital vision and products align with team strategy and requirements.

• Take accountability for product-specific KPIs once a solution enters production and communicate regular tracking to stakeholders.

• Utilize market and industry knowledge to translate user needs into user stories and acceptance criteria.

• Maintain a product backlog that is 3 to 4 sprints ahead of the team.

• Deliver multiple, concurrent projects and business area backlog items, taking responsibility for all business change elements.

• Lead and coordinate change activity, working with lead translators and program managers to maintain a strategic delivery roadmap.

• Manage projects of varying scale from idea through to delivery and closure, adopting proportionate governance.

• Maintain momentum and direction, delivering to the agreed scope, timeframe, and budget.

• Treat resource planning and accurate estimation as fundamental principles.

• Practice a progressive stakeholder management approach, building invested relationships and employing engagement plans.

• Actively manage project risks, issues, and dependencies.

• Plan and coordinate work with internal departments to ensure resource requirements are understood and available.

• Direct the activities of third-party providers (vendors, consultants, etc.), ensuring delivery to time, quality, and budget.

• Report progress to Lead Translators and senior business members through monthly reporting or equivalent channels.

• Facilitate release planning with stakeholders as well as weekly demos.

• Serve as a key role on Agile teams, working onsite with the team on a daily basis.

• Integrate usability studies and research into requirements to enhance user satisfaction and customer-driven design.

• Align outward-facing product requirements and stakeholders.

Authority & Decision Making

• Strategic Thinking: The role operates within broadly defined policies, standards, and objectives. The determination of “what needs to be done” is largely left to the incumbent, who must establish the plan, determine priorities, and prescribe the processes needed to achieve objectives.

• Operational Direction: Subject to general direction and broadly defined functional policy objectives. However, actions that impact other functional or operating areas usually require approval before they may be implemented.
