Job Purpose

Responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing the supply of merchandise (fresh produce, groceries, FMCG, household goods, etc.) for the supermarket, ensuring optimal stock levels, quality, and cost-efficiency while maintaining strong supplier relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers/vendors to secure the best prices, quality, and delivery terms
  • Prepare and issue purchase orders based on stock requirements and sales forecasts
  • Monitor stock levels and coordinate with store/warehouse teams to prevent overstocking or stockouts
  • Ensure timely delivery of goods and resolve any delays or discrepancies with suppliers
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing agreements, and payment terms with suppliers
  • Conduct market research to identify new suppliers, products, and pricing trends
  • Ensure all purchased goods meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards
  • Manage supplier performance and maintain vendor database/records
  • Coordinate with the finance department on invoicing, payments, and budget compliance
  • Handle product returns, damaged goods, and supplier claims
  • Maintain accurate procurement records, contracts, and pricing history
  • Support promotional planning by coordinating bulk purchases and special deals with suppliers
  • Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and local regulations

Experience

  • 3–4 years of procurement/purchasing experience, preferably in a supermarket, retail, or FMCG environment

Skills

  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
  • Knowledge of inventory management and supply chain principles
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and procurement/ERP software
  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
