Overview

The Director - Client Engagement is a senior client partner responsible for owning and growing key client relationships, providing strategic communication counsel, and ensuring the agency delivers measurable business impact.

This role sits at the intersection of advisory, growth, and leadership — acting as the primary strategic voice for clients while guiding internal teams to deliver high-quality, integrated communication work.

This is not an executional or channel-led role.

The individual leads through judgment, insight, and relationship stewardship, ensuring that narratives, reputation, and influence are aligned with client objectives and long-term growth.

Client Partnership & Advisory

  • Own and nurture senior-level client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor and long-term partner.
  • Develop a deep understanding of client businesses, industries, challenges, and ambitions to proactively guide strategy.
  • Lead strategic conversations around brand positioning, reputation, narrative development, and communication direction.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for client matters, ensuring proactive issue resolution and sustained trust.
  • Represent the client perspective internally, ensuring alignment across teams and outputs.

Strategic Communication & Oversight

  • Guide the development of integrated communication strategies across earned, owned, shared, and digital channels.
  • Ensure all communication activity supports broader business objectives, brand narratives, and reputational goals.
  • Provide senior oversight on campaign direction, messaging frameworks, and crisis response approaches.
  • Challenge and refine thinking to ensure strategic clarity, relevance, and effectiveness.
  • Stay informed on cultural, media, and industry shifts to offer forward-looking counsel.

Growth, Commercials & Account Expansion

  • Identify and drive opportunities for account growth through expanded scopes, new services, and long-term partnerships.
  • Support new business efforts, including pitches, proposals, and strategic account plans.
  • Oversee client contracts, renewals, scopes of work, and commercial negotiations.
  • Ensure account profitability while maintaining high standards of value and service delivery.

Team Leadership & Quality Assurance

  • Lead, mentor, and develop client engagement and account teams, fostering strategic thinking and strong client stewardship.
  • Set standards for excellence in client handling, communication, and delivery quality.
  • Translate client strategy into clear direction for internal teams without micromanaging execution.
  • Encourage collaboration across client services and strategy teams.

Insights, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Oversee client reporting, ensuring insights are meaningful, strategic, and tied to outcomes rather than outputs.
  • Use performance data, market intelligence, and client feedback to refine strategies and recommendations.
  • Implement frameworks to track client satisfaction, relationship health, and account performance.
