The Lead – Client Engagement plays a senior role in shaping and managing strategic client relationships, with a strong focus on public relations, reputation, and advisory-led communications.
This role is responsible for understanding client business challenges, identifying reputational and narrative opportunities, and guiding clients through complex communication landscapes.
Acting as the primary client lead, the role combines strategic thinking, media understanding, and problem-solving to ensure client objectives are met through thoughtful counsel, strong execution, and clear direction.
The Lead – Client Engagement works closely with internal PR, media, and strategy teams to align client needs with effective communication solutions, while maintaining high standards of delivery, trust, and long-term partnership.
Client Leadership & Strategic Advisory
- Serve as the primary client lead for key accounts, managing relationships with confidence, credibility, and discretion.
- Develop deep understanding of client businesses, industries, and stakeholder environments to anticipate needs and challenges.
- Provide strategic counsel on communication priorities, positioning, and reputation management.
PR Strategy & Problem Solving
- Lead the development of PR and communication strategies aligned with client objectives and broader business goals.
- Advise clients on complex issues, emerging risks, and sensitive topics, offering clear recommendations and structured solutions.
- Support clients through moments of change, scrutiny, or opportunity with calm, informed judgement.
Media Relations & Narrative Development
- Guide media strategy and engagement, ensuring messaging is clear, consistent, and relevant.
- Oversee media planning, story development, and press engagement in collaboration with PR and media teams.
- Ensure client narratives are compelling, credible, and aligned with reputational goals.
Account Oversight & Delivery Excellence
- Oversee day-to-day account delivery, ensuring work is timely, accurate, and aligned with agreed strategies.
- Work closely with internal teams to translate strategic direction into effective execution.
- Monitor progress, manage expectations, and proactively address issues to maintain client confidence.
Client Insight, Reporting & Recommendations
- Provide clients with regular updates, strategic perspectives, and clear reporting on activity and impact.
- Gather client feedback and market insight to inform recommendations and refine approaches.
- Track account performance against objectives, ensuring client KPIs and expectations are met.
Business Growth & Account Development
- Identify opportunities to expand client engagements through strategic thinking and strong partnership.
- Contribute to proposals, pitch development, and strategic account planning.
- Support client retention and growth by consistently delivering value-led counsel.
Risk, Issue & Stakeholder Management
- Identify potential reputational or engagement risks and advise on mitigation strategies.
- Manage issues or conflicts proactively, ensuring resolution protects both client relationships and reputation.
- Support crisis or sensitive communications in coordination with senior leadership when required.
Internal Leadership & Collaboration
- Mentor and support junior team members, helping develop confidence, judgement, and client-handling skills.
- Represent the client perspective internally, ensuring client priorities inform planning and decision-making.
- Encourage best practices and knowledge sharing across teams.
Thought Leadership & Advisory Positioning
- Stay informed on media, industry, and communications trends relevant to client sectors.
- Share insights and perspectives that help position the agency as a trusted communications advisor.
- Contribute to strategic thinking that strengthens the agency’s PR and advisory offering.
Required Experience & Profile
- 7–12 years of experience in public relations, strategic communications, client engagement, or consultancy roles.
- Proven experience managing senior client relationships and complex accounts.
- Strong background in PR strategy, media relations, and reputation management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging senior stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving mindset with the ability to think strategically under pressure.
- Experience working cross-functionally with media, strategy, and leadership teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, PR, Journalism, Business, or a related field.
- Client-centric, proactive, and commercially aware.
