Platform Engineer

Role overview

Infrastructure and release engineering

• Design, deploy, and maintain highly available cloud infrastructure, including AWS services such as ECS, EC2, RDS, VPC, CloudFront, Route 53, IAM, WAF, S3, and Secrets Manager.
• Optimize infrastructure performance and cost; build disaster recovery and backup strategies; scale environments for growth.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automate build, testing, and deployment processes.
• Implement blue/green and rolling deployments, manage staging and production releases, and minimize downtime.

Platform operations and observability

• Own the production backend environment, monitor application health, resolve production issues, and maintain service uptime SLAs.
• Manage application servers, reverse proxies, load balancers, and container orchestration; support backend performance and availability.
• Build centralized monitoring, alerting, logging, dashboards, and application performance monitoring using platforms such as Grafana, Prometheus, or CloudWatch.
• Conduct root cause analysis after incidents and continuously improve observability.

Database, security, networking, and reliability

• Administer PostgreSQL, optimize database performance, monitor replication and backups, plan upgrades, and protect data integrity and security.
• Manage IAM roles, SSL certificates, and secrets; assess vulnerabilities; apply security practices, patches, and updates.
• Configure VPC networking, VPNs, firewalls, NAT gateways, and security groups; troubleshoot connectivity and optimize network performance.
• Automate operational tasks and infrastructure provisioning; manage incident response, SLAs, SLOs, and operational metrics.
• Conduct post-incident reviews and drive reliability improvements.

Collaboration and success outcomes

• Work with backend engineers on architecture and deployment planning, production troubleshooting, infrastructure reviews, and operational best practices.
• Success includes owning production infrastructure, improving deployment reliability and observability, reducing incidents, strengthening disaster recovery, and optimizing cloud costs.
• Establish operational standards and documentation for the engineering organization.

Required skills and experience

• 5+ years in DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering.
• Strong Linux administration and expert Docker and Kubernetes knowledge.
• Extensive AWS experience and strong networking fundamentals.
• PostgreSQL administration and CI/CD pipeline experience.
• Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, Datadog, or similar monitoring platforms.
• Strong Bash and Python scripting; experience with high-availability production systems.
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills; familiarity with Nginx or Traefik and understanding of security best practices.

Nice to have

• FastAPI or Python backend environments; Redis, RabbitMQ, Kafka, or NATS; payment or financial infrastructure; OpenSearch or Elasticsearch; or multiregion cloud deployments are nice to have.
