About the role
Vasco is hiring the first owner of its DevOps practice and infrastructure platform, reporting to the CTO and working with product and data engineers.
The role sets standards for infrastructure, security, observability, and monitoring, with high autonomy and ownership.
The internal title is Software Developer; the advertised role is Platform/DevOps Engineer.
What you will do
- Own infrastructure, security, observability, and monitoring standards and maintain platform blueprints and guardrails.
- Manage GCP infrastructure and Kubernetes as code with Terraform.
- Improve CI/CD, self-service tools, and the delivery harness for fast, safe, reliable shipping, including AI-written code.
- Instrument production signals, reduce monitoring noise, own incident processes, inform stakeholders, and drive fixes.
- Set targets and reduce cloud, vendor, and LLM costs while keeping trends visible.
- Own security and access for customer revenue data, including IAM, secrets, network controls, Cloudflare, Aikido, and model-inference security.
- Support infrastructure for data pipelines and the warehouse alongside data engineers.
What we are looking for
- 6+ years of relevant experience as the primary owner of production cloud infrastructure, on GCP or a close equivalent.
- Production Terraform experience, with infrastructure changes made through code.
- Experience building or improving daily-use CI/CD and self-service tooling for product teams.
- AI coding tool fluency, including verifying generated code and safely managing high volumes of AI-written changes.
- Experience with monitoring, alerting, incident ownership, and postmortems that changed team practices.
- Experience implementing least-privilege IAM, secrets management, and network controls for sensitive customer data.
- Experience reducing cloud spend without harming reliability and keeping costs visible to the team.
Standout experience
- Experience with GCP, Kubernetes, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud Tasks, Terraform, Atlantis, CircleCI, Datadog, Incident.io, Cloudflare, Aikido, Node.js, TypeScript, or close equivalents is a plus.
- Data platform experience with Airbyte, Dataform, or BigQuery is a plus.
- Infrastructure for LLM or agent workloads and usage or cost controls is a plus.
- Experience helping a team through SOC 2 or a similar framework is a plus.
Benefits and team
- Vasco describes a small, experienced team, early-stage pace, meaningful ownership, autonomy, and an AI-forward working environment.
- Compensation is described as top of the national market, with stock options, uncapped paid time off, parental leave, and employer-paid health coverage for employees and dependents.
Where you will work
- Hybrid in Montreal, with three in-person days per week—Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday—at WeWork Place Ville-Marie.
Hiring process
- The process includes a discovery call, hiring manager interview, technical challenge and interview, and final CEO interview.
- A background check is required before starting.
