Role summary
The Plant Operator supports efficient, continuous, and safe operation of machinery and equipment in a manufacturing or production facility.
Duties and responsibilities
- Operate food-processing plant machines safely according to manufacturer instructions during production.
- Ensure production can start safely after following required biosecurity and hygiene procedures.
- Check refrigeration machinery and the ammonia plant before production; monitor and record readings regularly.
- Report machine or operational abnormalities to the section head and processing plant supervisors.
- Perform preventive or corrective maintenance during stoppages and follow hygiene procedures afterward.
- Assess the implications of running a machine under abnormal conditions while awaiting spare parts, replacement, or the next stoppage.
- Perform assigned site work outside the processing plant.
Requirements and qualifications
- High school or equivalent vocational coursework with welding training certification.
- At least 3–4 years of experience in an industrial setup or manufacturing plant.
- Skilled in operating industrial, heavy, or other industrial equipment; able to use basic hand tools and work independently.
- Able to read equipment manuals, blueprints, and schematics; attentive to detail and safety.
- Able to follow instructions and communicate with coworkers.
