Role Objective
The Planning Engineer is responsible for end-to-end planning, scheduling, monitoring, and control of resources, costs, and progress on a major capital projects portfolio.
The role builds and safeguards the project baseline, predicts bottlenecks before they occur, and delivers data-driven reports, KPIs, and dashboards that give executive leadership a clear view of project health and the insight needed to make timely decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain an Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) that links Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) into a single baseline using Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
Build resource-loaded and cost-loaded schedules, manage the Critical Path and near-critical paths, and establish contractual milestones and interface points.
Lead the periodic update cycle (data capture, progress measurement, look-ahead plans) using objective progress rules and S-curve tracking.
Monitor schedule performance using earned-value indicators, run variance analysis on planned vs. actual and planned vs. forecast, and recommend corrective and recovery actions.
Review and validate contractor schedules, baseline submissions, and time-impact analyses for variation orders and Extensions of Time (EOT).
Conduct delay and disruption analysis when required and develop catch-up or acceleration programs to restore project momentum.
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports, project KPIs, and Power BI dashboards that translate planning data into actionable insights for senior management.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Industrial, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 8 years of practical planning and scheduling experience on large-scale construction or industrial projects.
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is required.
- PMI-SP (Scheduling Professional) or AACE PSP (Planning & Scheduling Professional) is a plus.
Technical Skills
- Expert hands-on use of Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project (or Microsoft Planner) — non-negotiable.
- Proven experience building Power BI dashboards and developing project KPIs.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel, including Power Query, pivot tables, and complex formulas.
- Solid command of CPM (Critical Path Method) scheduling, earned-value management, and delay analysis techniques (Time Impact Analysis, As-Planned vs. As-Built).
- Working knowledge of FIDIC contract clauses related to time, delays, and Extensions of Time.
- Familiarity with SAP or equivalent ERP for progress and resource integration is a plus.
Soft Skills
Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and proactive in flagging schedule risks early.
Ability to defend schedule logic with data in front of contractors, consultants, and stakeholders.
Clear written reporting in English; working Arabic is preferred.
Position Type
Full-time, on-site — Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
