Pharmacy Technician

Job Summary

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure superior quality of medical treatment, compassion, and understanding for every patient served at NMC Hospitals and Clinics.
• Ensure dispensing functions are complete by checking prescriptions with correct labeling confirmed by the Pharmacist for inpatient, IV admixture, and outpatient.
• Maintain a neat, clean, and well-stocked work area for unit dose and IV admixture.
• Ensure centralized IV admixture preparations including TPN, injectable chemotherapy, antibiotics, and other IV therapy medications are completely labeled under Pharmacist supervision.
• Deliver floor stock medications to and from inpatient units.
• Ensure 24-hour card-filler preparation.
• Record daily dispensed medications, keep records, and inform the Pharmacist about expiring drugs per department policy.
• Educate patients and families per their needs and document in the patient medical record per policy.
• Involve patients and families in the plan of care and respect their goals and choices.
• Provide health promotion and teaching appropriate to patients' developmental level, learning needs, readiness, language preference, and culture.
• Comply with the hospital dress code and perform other applicable tasks assigned within knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Pharmacy and licensed Pharmacy Technician according to laws and regulations.
• Minimum of two years experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a large acute care hospital pharmacy.
• Proficient in the use and application of new medications and technology.
• Problem solving ability and analytical thinking preferred.
• Customer service skills with professionalism and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
• Fluency in verbal and written English for Arabic and non-Arabic speakers.
• Computer literate.
