Merchandise Planner

Role overview

Key responsibilities

• Establish reports, planning routines and controls for sales, stock and product performance.
• Analyze sales, margin, sell-through, stock cover, ageing and out-of-stock trends by product, category and branch.
• Recommend assortments and stock allocations based on branch demand, customer needs and available space.
• Develop demand forecasts and replenishment recommendations with purchasing and warehouse teams; monitor stock movements and imbalances.
• Recommend inter-branch transfers and actions for slow-moving or excess stock while protecting core-product availability.
• Review pricing, competitor positioning and promotions; recommend changes within agreed commercial approvals.
• Coordinate launch, seasonal and promotional stock plans with retail, ecommerce and marketing colleagues.
• Maintain planning data and report stock risks and opportunities to improve working capital and margin.

Experience and qualifications

• Retail merchandising or merchandise planning experience involving assortment, stock and pricing decisions.
• Experience establishing merchandising routines or improving a function with limited existing processes.
• Strong Excel and numerical analysis skills; comfortable using retail inventory and sales systems.
• Specialist retail experience is desirable, ideally in instruments, electronics or other durable goods with varied product ranges.
