About the role

Explore Learning provides individualized tuition using Compass, a learning platform that adapts to each child’s pace.

Tutors act as coaches and mentors, supporting learners’ progress, confidence, and curiosity.

Tutor responsibilities

  • Deliver tailored sessions using Compass, questioning, scaffolding, and stretching to facilitate learning.
  • Build meaningful relationships and create a safe, inspiring environment for groups of up to six children.
  • Support children aged 4–16 with the national curriculum, 11+ entrance exams, and GCSE preparation.
  • Prioritize learner safety and wellbeing, and encourage progress and confidence.

Candidate requirements

  • Candidates must be at least 16 and have the right to work in the UK; sponsorship is not available.
  • GCSE grade 6 or above in Maths and English Language, or equivalent, is required; predicted grades may be accepted if results are due within three months.
  • Candidates should be confident leading small groups, using positive behaviour management, and supporting children aged 4–16.
  • Satisfactory references, an Enhanced DBS check, and a complete employment history with relevant gaps explained are required.

Location

  • This is an on-site role based at the Slough centre.

Contract and schedule

  • The role is permanent and part time, with a minimum of six hours per week across at least two weekdays.
  • Available start times include 3:30–4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and morning or afternoon shifts on Saturday.
  • This is not a summer-only role; tutors are sought for the next academic year and beyond.

Pay

  • Base hourly rates are £8.40 for under-18s, £10.90 for ages 18–20, and £12.75 for ages 21 and over.
  • An additional 50p per hour applies at centres inside the M25, and training and induction time is paid.
  • Pay can increase through an annual review based on hours tutored.

Development and benefits

  • Tutors receive hands-on experience, ongoing development, prepared learning materials, and support from a collaborative team.
  • Benefits include 50% off membership fees for immediate relations, referral rewards, payroll giving, enhanced parental packages, a mortgage broker service, pension matching, and staff networks.

Recruitment and safeguarding

  • Hiring is on a first-come, first-served basis and the vacancy may close when a suitable candidate is hired.
  • The employer uses safer recruitment procedures and requires references, an Enhanced DBS check, and a full employment history.
