Leadership and people management
- Lead, mentor, coach, and develop database professionals; establish objectives, development plans, succession planning, and career opportunities.
- Manage staffing, resource allocation, workload priorities, and operational coverage; conduct performance reviews and provide feedback.
Database operations and reliability
- Oversee day-to-day Oracle and PostgreSQL operations and coordinate production support, planned maintenance, and emergency response.
- Lead incident, problem, and change management; maintain operational standards, procedures, and support models.
- Monitor, capacity-plan, tune, and optimize databases; manage installations, upgrades, patching, migrations, and decommissioning.
- Drive platform stability and reliability and oversee high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions.
Security, risk, and recovery
- Ensure compliance with security standards, regulatory requirements, and audit controls; lead vulnerability remediation and patch management.
- Oversee database access controls, privileged accounts, encryption, and data protection; support audits and maintain risk mitigation plans.
- Set backup and recovery standards, validate recovery processes, lead disaster recovery and business continuity exercises, and align RTO/RPO to business requirements.
Cloud and continuous improvement
- Support database platforms on premises and in public and private clouds; partner with infrastructure and architecture teams on migration and modernization.
- Manage Oracle Cloud, Exadata, Linux, storage, and platform integration; evaluate emerging technologies and operational practices.
- Promote Infrastructure-as-Code, scripting, orchestration, self-service, monitoring, observability, and operational analytics to reduce overhead.
Required technical knowledge
- Sound knowledge of Oracle EXACC, including X10 and X11.
- The role supports Oracle and PostgreSQL services and spans on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
