Program Overview

Qualcomm is recruiting for its U.S. 2027 summer intern class in machine learning and artificial intelligence engineering.

The application routes candidates to multiple project-specific roles based on resume alignment.

The posting explicitly states that it is not for one specific project.

Role Overview

  • Build tools and solutions for mobile and embedded machine learning platforms.
  • Design, develop, and test software for machine learning tools and frameworks.
  • Make machine learning models smaller and more efficient for edge devices.
  • Collaborate with researchers, software developers, and internal teams.
  • Potential focus areas include inference systems, compiler technologies, runtime systems, GPU acceleration, model serving, and performance optimization.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. program in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Available for 11 to 14 weeks during Summer 2027 from May through September.
  • Expected graduation date of November 2027 or later.
  • At least one year of experience with C, C++, or Python.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate study in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in deep neural networks, machine learning algorithms, and architectures such as CNNs, RNNs, or LSTMs.
  • Experience with TensorFlow, TFLite, or PyTorch.
  • Knowledge of compiler frameworks, parallel computing, AI infrastructure, inference systems, distributed computing, runtime systems, GPU programming, CUDA, Kubernetes, or performance optimization.
  • Experience in neural network programming, video or image processing, application development, linear algebra, model compression, quantization, or optimization.
  • Experience with reinforcement learning, neural architecture search, kernel optimization, Bayesian optimization, on-device training, transfer learning, personalization, federated learning, NLP, or ML security and privacy.
  • Experience with generative models, audio or speech processing, NLP, computer vision, wireless communication, ML data pipelines, data management, or backend and frontend applications.
  • Research publications at venues such as NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, or ICCV.
  • Experience in object-oriented software design.

Internship Program

  • Interns receive mentorship, professional development workshops, social events, cross-functional speaker sessions, and an executive speaker series.
  • The program offers competitive pay, accrued vacation time, relocation coverage, and furnished housing for the internship duration.

Potential Locations

  • Internship opportunities may be available in Austin, Boulder, Boxborough, Bridgewater, Chandler, Irvine, New York City, Louisville, Raleigh, San Diego, Santa Clara, and Seattle, depending on team and project needs.

Application Process

  • Candidates express interest in multiple 2027 Qualcomm Machine Learning and AI Engineering internships.
  • Resumes are reviewed on an ongoing basis, and advancing candidates may be invited to complete a timed HackerRank assessment.

Pay Information

  • The posting lists a broad pay scale of $17.00 to $98.00 for the applicable job code and location, but does not specify a compensation cadence.

Export Control

Some candidates may require an export license, which could delay or prevent participation in the internship.
