The Preschool Teacher Assistant supports the lead teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for young children.
The assistant supports classroom management, prepares instructional materials, supervises children, and promotes social, emotional, and cognitive development.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with daily lesson plans, learning activities, and educational games aligned with the preschool curriculum.
- Supervise children during classroom activities, play, meals, and outdoor time; reinforce rules and positive behavior.
- Prepare classroom materials and displays; keep spaces clean, organized, and free from hazards.
- Provide individual or small-group activity and emotional support; observe development and report concerns or progress.
- Support daily routines including arrivals, departures, toileting, meals, and rest time.
- Model respectful, inclusive behavior and collaborate with teachers and staff.
Skills
- Patience, empathy, communication, teamwork, observation, creativity, organization, adaptability, and cultural sensitivity.
- Ability to engage young children through play and learning and respond to changing schedules or needs.
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor's degree in Preschool Education or equivalent is required.
- TKT Training Course is listed.
- Prior experience working with young children in an educational or care setting is preferred.
Safeguarding and school principles
Staff are expected to promote children's welfare and safety and follow school policies and procedures.
Post holders are subject to appropriate vetting, references, and satisfactory criminal background checks covering the previous 10 years of employment history.
