We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical

Group Medical Underwriting Manager

to join our Medical Underwriting team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating and underwriting group medical insurance risks, supporting business growth while ensuring profitability, compliance, and exceptional service standards.

Key Responsibilities

o Analyzes and reviews Group quotations (new cases & renewals) submitted by the Sales Department for clients/brokers and ensures underwriting decisions are aligned with company guidelines and profitability objectives.

o Ensures all information provided by the Sales Department, clients, and brokers is accurate, complete, and sufficient for underwriting assessment.

o Verifies all relevant client information, including General Group Data, Medical Application Forms (MAF), claims experience, and other supporting documents to conduct comprehensive risk assessment.

o Reviews and approves pricing, terms, and conditions based on underwriting guidelines, claims utilization, risk exposure, and market conditions within delegated authority.

o Reviews and approves quotations prepared by the underwriting team, providing guidance on complex or exceptional cases and escalating where required in accordance with the authority matrix.

o Analyzes claims utilization, loss ratios, and portfolio performance to determine appropriate renewal terms and pricing strategies.

o Provides technical underwriting support and responds to complex pricing and underwriting queries from the Sales Department and brokers.

o Oversees monthly renewal assessments and ensures timely issuance of renewal terms within service level agreements and delegated authority.

o Monitors underwriting quality, pricing consistency, turnaround times, and adherence to underwriting policies and procedures.

o Prepares and reviews monthly, quarterly, and annual underwriting performance reports, including claims utilization, loss ratio, portfolio analysis, and management information for Senior Management.

o Manages the day-to-day activities of the Group Medical Underwriting team by allocating work, setting priorities, monitoring workloads, and ensuring departmental service standards are achieved.

o Coaches, mentors, and develops underwriting staff by providing technical guidance, conducting performance reviews, identifying training needs, and supporting continuous professional development.

o Reviews, updates, and implements underwriting procedures, pricing guidelines, and operational processes to improve efficiency and service quality.

o Works closely with Sales, Claims, Operations, Finance, Compliance, and other stakeholders to ensure effective underwriting support and business growth.

o Monitors work volumes, pending cases, SLA performance, and resource requirements, implementing appropriate actions to improve operational efficiency.

o Participates in system enhancement initiatives, underwriting automation projects, and process improvement activities to strengthen underwriting operations.

o Ensures compliance with company underwriting policies, delegated authority limits, UAE health insurance regulations, and internal governance requirements.

o Carries out any other duties as assigned by the Department Head or Senior Management.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in any discipline.
  • 7–10 years of experience in Group Medical Insurance underwriting, preferably within the UAE insurance market.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Sound understanding of Group Medical underwriting principles, pricing methodologies, portfolio management, and risk assessment.
  • Strong knowledge of UAE health insurance regulations and industry practices.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and people management skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and negotiation abilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in evaluating underwriting data and documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and underwriting systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, customer-focused, and collaborative environment.
