Functional Architect – Ed-Tech Ecosystem & Process

Role overview

Key responsibilities

• Own functional architecture and process blueprints for learner, faculty, institution, and administrator journeys.
• Run client discovery and requirements workshops; turn outcomes into specifications, process maps, and user stories.
• Map current processes, identify gaps, and design target operating processes and change impacts.
• Define the functional ecosystem across LMS, SIS/ERP, assessment and proctoring, content, certification, analytics, and integrations.
• Partner with the Technical Architect to ensure designs are technically coherent and feasible to deliver.
• Govern traceability, change control, sign-offs, and UAT strategy.
• Advise on education-sector regulation, accreditation, and policy; support pre-sales, solutioning, effort sizing, and presentations.

Must-have qualifications

• At least 10 years of experience, including substantial time in education technology, higher education, skilling, or EdTech product/consulting environments.
• Functional ownership of at least one large learning or education platform implementation.
• Strong working knowledge of LMS platforms, student information systems, assessment engines, content, and learning standards including SCORM, xAPI, LTI, and QTI.
• Business process design and re-engineering capability, including process mapping, SOP definition, and operating model design.
• Strong requirements documentation: BRD/FRD, functional specs, process flows, and wireframe-level articulation.
• Confident management of senior client and institutional stakeholders.
• Graduate or postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline.

Preferred qualifications

• Consulting, Big 4, or advisory background is a plus.
• Exposure to government or public-sector education programmes, NEP-aligned initiatives, or accreditation frameworks is a plus.
• CBAP, Lean Six Sigma, or TOGAF certification is desirable.
• Familiarity with learning analytics and AI-enabled personalisation is desirable.
• MBA or an education-domain postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
