The engineer works directly with product users, owns critical systems across the stack, and helps set technical direction.
What you'll work on
- Partner with operations to understand insurance work, find opportunities, and determine what to build.
- Build complete features across the interface, application logic, data model, and infrastructure.
- Create reliable workflows that account for accuracy, outside-system failures, and processes lasting days or weeks.
- Develop AI systems to interpret information, automate multi-step work, and identify when human intervention is needed.
What Fernstone looks for
- At least 2 years of experience.
- Has shipped and maintained production software that people depend on.
- Can turn ambiguous business problems into focused solutions.
- Strong backend and relational database fundamentals, with comfort building polished frontend experiences.
- Careful approach to data correctness, failure handling, and post-deployment system behavior.
- Practical language-model experience, including evaluating output and handling mistakes.
- Effective use of AI development tools, with responsibility for understanding, reviewing, and debugging shipped code.
Compensation
- Compensation range is $120,000–$180,000 per year.
