Position Details

  • Job Title: Fire Assay Laboratory Technician
  • Location: Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – Jeddah (South Jeddah) – Minerals Laboratory
  • Reporting to: Production Manager

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Specialty: Chemistry / Science / Geochem
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years in a testing laboratory or equivalent

Technical Knowledge

  • Proficient in laboratory testing procedures
  • Familiar with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements
  • Acquainted with national and international testing standards
  • Skilled in laboratory tools and equipment
  • Knowledgeable in safety protocols

Responsibilities / Authorities / Accountabilities (Primary Functions)

  • Accurately weighing samples and metal materials.
  • Mixing samples with litharge inside extraction cupboards.
  • Loading prepared samples into crucibles and melting them in furnaces.
  • Pouring controlled quantities of molten material into moulds.
  • Moving materials safely using a hand‑held pump truck.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and well‑organised furnace and assay area.
  • Cupellation Process — Performing cupellation to separate precious metals.
  • Lead Button Handling — Cleaning, preparing, and weighing lead buttons.
  • Flux Preparation — Preparing flux mixtures (litharge, borax, soda ash, silica).
  • Muffle Furnace Operation — Operating and controlling muffle furnace temperatures.
  • Precious Metal Collection — Collecting and polishing precious‑metal beads.
  • Bead Weighing — Weighing gold/silver beads using microbalances.

QHSSE Responsibilities

  • Implementing BV safety programs within the team
  • Comply at all times with all applicable legal requirements, BV HSE Policies, procedures and practices.
  • Maintain personal work areas tidy and hazard free and report any deviation/fault/hazard immediately.
  • Report immediately to HSE Representative any newly identified hazard and participate in devising suitable operational control.
  • Report immediately to HSE Representative any HSE incident and cooperate in investigating.
  • Take care of your own health and safety and that of people who may be affected by what you do.
  • Co‑operate with others on health and safety, and not interfere with, or misuse, anything provided for your health, safety or welfare.
