About the Role

  • The Field IECEx Inspector performs hands on inspection of hazardous area electrical and instrumentation installations under the technical direction of the Lead IECEx Inspector.
  • This role executes Visual (V) and Close (C) grade inspections in accordance with IEC 60079 17:2023, supports Detailed (D) grade activities, and maintains accurate inspection records for every classified hazardous area assigned.
  • The initial deployment covers the PP12 Expansion CCGT IPP Project (1,800 MW, Durma, KSA) — spanning 14 classified hazardous areas from Zone 0 to Zone 2, covering natural gas, hydrogen, and diesel oil hazard categories.

Key Responsibilities

  • Study the project Hazardous Area Classification drawing for all assigned areas — understand zone boundaries, gas groups, and temperature classes before commencing any inspection.
  • Notify the Lead Inspector immediately of any discrepancy observed between the HAC drawing and site conditions.
  • Attend the daily technical briefing conducted by the Lead Inspector — confirm understanding of the planned areas, applicable ITP activities, and safety controls for the day.
  • Review relevant equipment certificates and cable schedules for assigned areas before entering the field.
  • Perform all inspection activities strictly in accordance with the approved Inspection & Test Plan (ITP) apply the correct inspection grade (Visual, Close, or Detailed) as designated for each activity.
  • Never perform an inspection activity outside the assigned ITP scope or personal certified competency without prior written instruction from the Lead Inspector.
  • Follow all approved SOPs for inspection activities including cable gland inspection, conduit sealing checks, earthing continuity verification, and enclosure integrity checks.
  • Report any SOP ambiguity or site condition not covered by the SOP to the Lead Inspector before proceeding.
  • Perform Visual (V) grade inspections — equipment nameplate verification, zone signage checks, enclosure integrity checks, cable entry and gland visual checks, and labelling/marking verification.
  • Photograph all findings using IS rated cameras and record observations on the standard inspection record form.
  • Perform Close (C) grade inspections using calibrated tools — cable gland tightness checks, gland to cable compatibility verification, bolt and fastener checks, and conduit sealing fitting checks.
  • Use only Ex rated or non sparking tools when working within classified zone boundaries.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years in E&I inspection, installation, or quality control across oil & gas, petrochemical, or power generation sites.
  • Prior inspection or installation work on Combined Cycle Gas Turbine power plants is an advantage.
  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in electrical, Electronic, or Instrumentation Engineering or equivalent.
  • CompEx Ex01–04 (gas/vapor) or IECEx CoPC Units 003/007 minimum — required. Certificate must be current, unrevoked, and independently verifiable.
  • CompEx Ex11 (mechanical) or additional IECEx CoPC units, OPITO BOSIET with EBS and OPITO Basic H2S training. K3/HSE certification an advantage.
  • English – must read, write and complete technical documents in English.
  • Valid & Transferable Iqama required.
