Role purpose
Works with Project Managers to estimate costs for tender scopes, complete quantity take-offs, organize bid bonds, and coordinate with subcontractors on project costs.
Key responsibilities
- Prioritize tenders based on tender type, client, and closing date.
- Analyze drawings and specifications, calculate material quantities, and prepare comprehensive cost estimates.
- Use comparable previous projects for cost comparison when needed.
- Prepare, issue, receive, and review supplier and subcontractor proposals and pricing.
- Coordinate client questions, clarifications, and scope changes during bidding.
- Clarify estimate assumptions, materials, and construction methods for project management at award and start-up.
- Review budgets and profitability with project teams and support corrective measures to improve cost accuracy.
- Provide cost information and estimates for changes during construction phases.
Qualifications and experience
- Diploma or bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Interior Design, Architecture, or a related discipline.
- 3–5 years of estimation experience; interior fit-out experience in the UAE or GCC is preferred.
- Experience preparing take-offs, cost estimates, and tender submissions for commercial, retail, hospitality, or residential fit-out projects.
- Knowledge of fit-out materials, finishes, joinery, MEP interfaces, and construction methods.
Skills and tools
- Proficiency in MS Excel and estimating or take-off software; PlanSwift, Bluebeam, and CostX are examples.
- Ability to read AutoCAD drawings and review drawings, specifications, and BOQs for scope gaps and risks.
- Experience comparing supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Analytical and numerical ability, accuracy, attention to detail, organization, and time management.
- Communication skills for coordinating with clients, consultants, and project teams.
