Role overview

Engineering leadership and assurance

• Oversee and assure multidiscipline engineering scopes across a portfolio of projects.
• Ensure work meets client requirements, procedures, specifications, and international engineering standards.
• Implement client-specific design procedures and monitor compliance with standards and processes.
• Promote learning, process safety, continual improvement, and prevention of technical incidents through controls and lessons learned.
• Identify and mitigate risks and improvement opportunities; plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate client and contractor engineering teams.
• Consult and negotiate with clients, prepare specifications, explain proposals, and present reports and findings.
• Assign, coordinate, and review technical work; manage cost, schedule, resources, integration, and technical issue resolution.
• Review technical concepts, help solve difficult problems, and resolve major engineering issues on brownfield upgrade projects.
• Develop engineering policies, standards, and procedures; manage design and engineering activities and ensure deliverable quality.
• Interface with the Project Manager or Project Director on design and engineering issues; report to either depending on project size.

Mandatory qualifications and experience

• Bachelor honors degree in a relevant engineering discipline from a recognized institution.
• Professional accreditation from a recognized US, UK, EU, Australian, or Canadian institute; examples include C Eng, PE, or Eur Ing.
• 15+ years of oil and gas experience in process engineering or piping engineering, including five years in an Engineering Manager position.
• Iraq project experience is required.
• Candidates must be willing to travel to Basra, Iraq.

Expected capabilities

• Multidiscipline engineering team leadership, strong ability in one relevant discipline, and sound working knowledge of other relevant disciplines.
• Proven track record in onshore brownfield projects in the Middle East and strong expertise relevant to brownfield engineering upgrades.
• Ability to engage, challenge, and direct engineers and to balance technical and management experience.
• Broad knowledge of engineering theories and techniques and their application to engineering-function management.
• Interpersonal and communication skills to influence people at all levels; ability to embed standards and processes.
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks, legislation, and industry and technology developments.
• Ability to conduct audits and incident investigations; project management, mediation, and dispute-resolution skills; financial and commercial awareness.

Preferred qualification

• A master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline is preferred.
