About KOTT

KOTT is a family-run supplier of products and services for residential construction, serving homebuilders and construction professionals from four Ontario locations.

The company has more than 250 employees and serves Ottawa and the Greater Toronto Area.

Opportunity

The Design and Engineering team seeks a manager to oversee design activity for floor, wall, and roof truss products in the Greater Toronto Area.

The team estimates and designs systems from customer-provided house plans, aiming for code compliance, cost effectiveness, and on-time, complete delivery.

Day-to-day responsibilities

  • Set designers’ targets and manage day-to-day priorities and workflow; be accountable for output and design completion dates.
  • Ensure designs meet codes, regulations, sales requests, customer plans, and scopes of work.
  • Review architectural and structural plans, scopes of work, and tender documents.
  • Coordinate with designers, design administration, sales, customers, consultant engineers, and outsourced design providers.
  • Resolve design and estimating site issues promptly and professionally.
  • Complete department administration and other duties requested by the Design Director.

What you need to succeed

  • The description asks for at least 10 years of truss and EWP design experience; the structured experience field separately lists six years of EWP design.
  • At least three years managing five or more people.
  • A Civil Engineering Technologist or Architectural Technologist diploma is preferred; equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office and Excel; one year of Bistrack or equivalent ERP experience is listed as required.
  • MiTek experience is preferred, and Palantir Foundry experience is an asset.
  • Ability to prioritize, interpret architectural and structural drawings, contract documents, and building codes.
  • Understanding of residential and commercial construction practices and effective written and verbal communication.

Benefits

  • Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage; wellness spending; employee assistance; recognition and referral programs; and employee and family events.
  • The employer states occupational health and safety is a priority.

Compensation

  • Pay is $75,000 to $95,000 per year, based on skills and experience.

Workplace

  • The posting describes the role as hybrid remote in Uxbridge, Ontario.
  • Reliable transportation is essential because the location is not on a bus route.

Employment conditions

The position is full-time and permanent.

Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
