Role overview

The designer works with engineers and design specialists to develop new injection molding tooling products through a formal product development process.

Design and development responsibilities

  • Apply scientific and engineering principles to tooling design; create system-level concepts, function block diagrams, CAD layouts, and functional decomposition.
  • Size and select components, choose materials, and apply design standards.
  • Optimize designs for manufacturing, assembly, and testing; perform structural FEA, thermal, dynamics, tolerance stack-up, and other analyses.
  • Create detailed drawings using GD&T, maintain design standards, verify design details, and prepare design documents and validation plans.
  • Contribute to engineering documentation and ensure product development and release process steps are followed.
  • Provide expertise-based leadership, mentoring, and training; lead or contribute to design reviews and brainstorming.
  • Participate in or lead continuous improvement and drive collaborative product development.
  • Mitigate design risks, including through FMEA, and champion compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate across analysis, electrical, software, fluid power, metallurgy, manufacturing, and validation/test disciplines.
  • Represent Husky technically to customers during startup support and troubleshooting.

Education and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of design execution and project leadership experience; experience in a related industry is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of injection molding products, markets, and customer requirements.
  • Expert modeling and detailing skills and ability to calculate design parameters and apply engineering principles.
  • Strong understanding of stress analysis, manufacturing, and assembly processes.
  • Experience selecting and sizing components using engineering calculations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills; strong time management, organization, attention to detail, problem-solving, creativity, and ownership.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a cohesive team.
  • Experience with multiple-cavitation injection molding tooling, including PET preforms, closures, or thin-wall packaging, is an asset.
  • Hands-on mechanical ability and interest in practical mechanical work.

Compensation

  • The posting lists a salary range of $85,000–$130,000 without specifying a pay cadence.
  • A competitive compensation and benefits package is offered.
