Role overview

Responsibilities

• Develop R, Python, Shiny, and Django scripts and applications for advanced analytics supporting internal audit and counter-fraud and investigation activities.
• Produce and present reports and visualisations to agency colleagues and customers.
• Document and maintain code and collaborate using tools such as DevOps and Git.
• Improve scripts, packages, data pipelines, applications, and quality assurance processes using coding best practices and quality standards.
• Lead activities to upskill the agency's data analytics network and promote analytics use.
• Engage with government and private-sector data teams to investigate new approaches for audit and counter-fraud activities.
• Use LLMs and AI models in analysis and develop tools for safe and effective AI use.
• Provide training and support to increase organisational data analytics capability.

Person specification

• Experience interpreting customer needs and conducting advanced data analytics using R or Python to deliver services.
• Ability to communicate complex analysis results clearly to non-experts.
• Ability to connect business problems with analytical solutions, collaborate on implementation, and research emerging methods and opportunities.
• Strong organisation, project leadership across multiple concurrent projects at pace, and stakeholder relationship-building experience.
• Experience in at least two areas: Quarto outputs; R or Python web applications; AI product development; Azure environment maintenance; or building and reviewing business-critical models.

Salary

• Salary is £60,468–£70,510, with a London range of £64,589–£75,151; the posting does not state a pay cadence.
• A Civil Service Pension is listed with an employer contribution of 28.97%.

Location and working arrangements

• Advertised locations are Birmingham, Bristol, Bootle, Croydon, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Reading, or Swansea.
• Employees are expected to maintain a regular presence at their contractual designated work location and travel to other agency locations or client sites for critical meetings and field assignments.
• The contractual location must be one of the advertised locations and within reasonable daily commuting distance; existing agency employees appointed to the role may remain at their current workplace location.
