The Control Software Designer is part of the Development Engineering team.
The role designs, supports, and troubleshoots control systems for injection molding machines and mold controllers.
The work focuses on developing solutions to complex technical challenges.
Key responsibilities
- Design control systems for injection molding machine and mold controller applications, including servo drive, servo-hydraulic, and injection molding process controls.
- Provide functional and design specifications and validation plans for new machine and mold controller functionality.
- Develop machine sequences using PLC IEC 61131-3, process control, and human-machine interface software in a Windows environment.
- Troubleshoot and debug real-time and non-real-time software.
- Document software changes using resources such as TFS/VSTS and Azure DevOps.
- Document development, design changes, and production design activities.
- Communicate design information with other design groups and businesses.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical and Electronics, ECE, Instrumentation, or Software Engineering, or equivalent; listed degree is preferred.
- At least 5 years of hands-on automated control-system design and troubleshooting experience is preferred.
- PLC structured-text language design and programming using IEC 61131-3.
- Programming experience using C, C++, C#, or another high-level language for HMI applications.
- Strong knowledge of PC-based control systems, embedded systems, control theory, and model-based design principles.
- Knowledge of PLCs and motion controllers.
- Working knowledge of industrial networks and protocols including RS232, RS485, Ethernet, CANOpen, Profibus, Profinet, and EtherCAT.
- Ability to read control circuits using Eplan as a resource.
- Experience with Beckhoff TwinCAT3 and designing, debugging, and deploying software in VSTS.
- Experience with Beckhoff, Siemens, GE, ABB, or Allen Bradley machine-design products is preferred.
- Experience with Agile software design and Test Driven Development; familiarity with AI in software development is requested.
- Strong proficiency in English, spoken and written.
