Job purpose
Ensure smooth, continuous, safe, and efficient operation of gas and steam turbines, associated plant equipment, and utility services in the assigned area, in the control room or field.
Key accountabilities
- Operate assigned gas turbines, steam turbines, waste heat boilers, auxiliaries, associated plant equipment, and essential services safely and efficiently.
- Carry out safe startup and shutdown of turbines and associated systems from the control room when assigned.
- Operate Potline rectifier transformers from the control room.
- Communicate with customers and handle day-to-day issues under the system controller's supervision.
- Check operating and standby equipment and monitor instrument readings against satisfactory limits.
- Assist with startup, shutdown, and isolation of equipment for maintenance.
- Record routine readings, report deviations and abnormalities, and promptly carry out instructions.
- Follow emergency procedures and safe working practices; assist with testing and recommissioning after outages.
- Keep standby equipment available for emergencies and maintain housekeeping standards.
- Train subordinates on the job when required and strive to improve competency.
Minimum qualifications and experience
- Diploma in Engineering or equivalent.
- Three years of experience in the Operations department of a modern power station.
- Must be conversant and competent to work in the assigned areas and plant equipment.

Plant equipment and areas
Power Plant 1 includes boiler common services, FR5, FR9B and 13D gas turbines, waste heat boilers, Steam Turbine 14, compressor house, and firewater pumps.
Power Plant 2 includes FR9E gas turbines, waste heat boilers, Steam Turbines 16 and 18, desiccant dryer house, GT air coolers, cooling system, seawater pumps, and chlorination plant.
Power Plant 1A includes gas turbines 21, 22 and 23; waste heat boilers 21, 22 and 23; Steam Turbine 22 and associated demineralization plant; CCPP-22 and GT 23 gas skids; PL 7 and PL 9 rectifier transformers; compressed air house 7B; Condor seawater pump house and chlorination plant.
