Role overview

Clinical responsibilities

• Diagnose and treat patients according to established specialty standards and best practice.
• Oversee junior medical staff and take responsibility for the care they provide.
• Follow protocols for admissions, consultations, daily care, procedures, discharge, outpatient care, and follow-up; use resources appropriately.
• Lead ward rounds, reassess patients, document clinical information, review investigations, and adjust treatment as needed.
• Coordinate with specialties and support services; participate in multidisciplinary care planning.
• Prepare patients for procedures, obtain informed consent, and accept clinically appropriate referrals.
• Provide rotational on-call coverage, including evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays as required.
• Communicate with patients and, with consent, their families; promote teamwork and collaboration.

Administration, quality, and education

• Support hospital and divisional policies, procedures, and initiatives; assist with performance management, peer review, and productivity and utilization reviews.
• Assist with medical coverage scheduling, attend divisional meetings, and support recruitment when appropriate.
• Help lead departmental quality improvement, promote audit, and support reporting and response to untoward incidents.
• Guide and supervise junior medical staff, facilitate relevant training, and support continued medical education.
• Promote and participate in clinical research and publication; keep current with relevant literature, trends, and technologies.

Experience requirements

• Tier 1 requires at least 2 years of relevant consultant or equivalent experience after board certification.
• Tier 2 requires at least 8 years of full-time consultant or equivalent experience after board certification at an internationally accredited institute; fellowship years count.
• For UAE nationals, eligible clinical subspecialty fellowship years may count as two experience years, limited to specified countries or HAAD-accredited programs.
