Role Overview

As a Commis II at Banyan Tree Dubai, you will support the kitchen team in basic food preparation and mise-en-place tasks.

You will work under the guidance of senior chefs to ensure ingredients and preparations are ready to the required standards for service.

This is an entry-level culinary role focused on learning, discipline, and building strong foundational kitchen skills within a luxury hospitality environment.

Basic Food Preparation

  • Assist with basic kitchen preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients.
  • Support Commis I and Demi Chef de Partie in daily mise-en-place.
  • Prepare simple food items under supervision.
  • Follow instructions from senior kitchen staff accurately.

Kitchen Support

  • Ensure assigned work areas are clean and ready for service.
  • Assist in maintaining smooth kitchen operations during preparation and service periods.
  • Support basic tasks across different sections as required.
  • Help with receiving and storing ingredients when needed.

Food Quality & Standards

  • Follow recipes, portion sizes, and preparation instructions strictly.
  • Ensure basic food preparation meets quality standards set by senior chefs.
  • Report any quality or ingredient issues immediately.

Hygiene & Safety

  • Follow HACCP, food safety, and hygiene procedures at all times.
  • Maintain cleanliness of workstations, equipment, and utensils.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of food items.
  • Report any hazards or maintenance issues promptly.

Teamwork & Learning

  • Support senior kitchen colleagues during service preparation.
  • Actively learn kitchen processes and culinary techniques.
  • Take direction positively and apply feedback for improvement.
  • Contribute to a cooperative and disciplined kitchen environment.

Cost Awareness & Efficiency

  • Assist in minimising waste through careful handling of ingredients.
  • Follow portioning and preparation instructions accurately.
  • Support basic stock handling and organisation.

Qualifications & Experience

  • No extensive experience required; previous kitchen exposure is an advantage.
  • Basic understanding of food preparation and hygiene standards preferred.
  • Culinary training or hospitality education is beneficial but not essential.
  • Strong willingness to learn and develop in a professional kitchen.
