Collections Conservation Officer
Role Overview
The Assistant Conservator for Collections and Technical Support undertakes conservation and related work on the organization's collections.
Responsible for all health and safety and the maintenance and safe operation of all laboratories, analytical and other associated equipment.
Implements preventive and remedial conservation services and ensures collection conditions are documented to agreed standards.
Ensures collections are conserved and presented to meet the needs of researchers, donors, and the public.

Job Purpose
The Assistant Conservator for Collections and Technical Support undertakes conservation and related work on the organization's collections.
Responsible for all health and safety and the maintenance and safe operation of all laboratories, analytical and other associated equipment.
Implements preventive and remedial conservation services and ensures collection conditions are documented to agreed standards.
Ensures collections are conserved and presented to meet the needs of researchers, donors, and the public.
Technical Management
- Maintenance of laboratory and all associated equipment and services.
- Maintenance and management of all documentation related to safe operation of the laboratory.
- Maintain and manage the environmental monitoring platform.
- Undertake technical support for conservation services.
- Undertake conservation work at the direction of line management.
- Maintain all documentation related to technical work programs.
- Provide support for mounting and display of collection items.
Team Deliverables
- Support the Collections Care and other Departments in line with agreed work programs and deliverables.
Research and Scholarship
- Support research and scholarship related to the collections.
- Publish and present research findings at conferences and in professional journals.
Public Engagement
- Provide support to the department on public engagement and education activities.
Budget and Financial Management
- Manage internal budget for Laboratory facility.
- In conjunction with line management develop annual equipment and materials budget.
- Provide reports on lab expenditure to Departmental manager.
Risk Management & Disaster Recovery
- Manage all relevant health and safety documents in line with local and regional legislation and provide reports at request of Departmental Director.
- Maintain Risk register for Laboratory.
- Provide support for risk management and disaster recovery projects relating to the collections.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Museology, Archaeology, or a Bachelor's degree in science.
- Master's degree in science is preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in the same field.
