Role overview

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Java/JEE backend applications and services.
• Apply dependency injection, IoC, AOP, functional programming, and test-driven development.
• Develop secure data access and manage transactions; support enterprise-system integrations.
• Contribute to CI/CD, automated testing, and version control.
• Troubleshoot application issues and collaborate with analysts, testers, architects, and developers.
• Depending on experience, provide technical leadership, mentoring, or technical-area ownership.

Required expertise

• Java/JEE development and Java frameworks such as Spring.
• JSP/Servlets, dependency injection, IoC, AOP, functional programming, and TDD.
• JPA/Hibernate or similar data-access frameworks, transaction management, and batch-processing concepts.
• API development and integration; CI/CD, automation, and Git-based workflows.
• Debugging, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and task delivery or coordination.

Preferred expertise and screening

• Ruby or Groovy scripting for web development is preferred.
• Exposure to functional programming principles and batch-processing frameworks or tools is preferred.
• Pre-employment screening follows the UK Government BPSS; additional National Security Vetting, including SC or DV eligibility, may apply.
• A bachelor's degree is listed as preferred education.
