Role overview

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, test, and commission ABB control systems, I/O, controllers, servers, networks, and redundant architectures.
• Develop control logic, interlocks, sequences, libraries, I/O databases, backups, and engineering records.
• Create operator displays, alarms, trends, historian interfaces, access control, and HMI functions.
• Engineer SAS, electrical SCADA, and PMS integrations with protection devices, meters, switchgear, generators, transformers, PLCs, RTUs, drives, and third-party systems.
• Perform IEC 61850 engineering, protocol and network configuration, diagnostics, and time synchronization.
• Lead FAT, SAT, loop checks, commissioning, startup, migrations, shutdowns, cutovers, troubleshooting, and customer acceptance.
• Apply cybersecurity practices and support virtualization, backup, disaster recovery, licensing, lifecycle management, documentation, training, and warranty support.

Qualifications and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Electronics Engineering.
• 5–8 years in industrial automation, SCADA/DCS, or substation automation, including at least 3 years with ABB 800xA and AC800M.
• Delivered at least two ABB 800xA projects end-to-end, including engineering, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and handover.
• Hands-on integration of IEDs, relays, PLCs, RTUs, and gateways using IEC 61850 and industrial protocols.
• Able to independently lead testing, shutdowns, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer-facing activities.
• Proficient with P&IDs, SLDs, control schematics, I/O lists, cable schedules, and network drawings.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and reporting skills; able to work independently and meet deadlines.

Technical skills and preferred exposure

• Core technologies include ABB System 800xA, AC800M, Control Builder M, S800 I/O, IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-101/104, DNP3, Modbus, Profinet, Profibus, EtherNet/IP, and OPC.
• Other core areas include industrial networking, redundancy, Wireshark diagnostics, IEC 62443, VMware/Hyper-V, backup and disaster recovery, IEC 61131-3, and ISA-18.2/IEC 62682.
• Preferred exposure includes SAS, protection relays, electrical SCADA, PMS, energy monitoring, IET600, PCM600, ABB Relion/AC500/drives, Siemens S7-1500, Rockwell ControlLogix, Moxa gateways, and RTUs.
• UAE/GCC project experience, a GCC driving licence, ABB certification, and PMS/SAS, cybersecurity, or industrial networking experience are advantageous.

Travel

• Willingness to travel across UAE, GCC, and international project locations.
