Associate Director
About This Role
Associate Director – Mechanical Engineering
At this level, the expectation shifts. It’s not just about delivering projects, it’s about shaping them, leading people effectively, and influencing how the business grows.
This role is built for someone who has already led complex mechanical design projects and now wants to take ownership of larger, mission-critical programmes, particularly in the data centre space. You’ll be stepping into a position where your technical judgment, leadership style, and commercial awareness all matter.
If you’re looking to move into a role with more visibility, more influence, and a clear path into senior leadership, this is where it starts to get meaningful.
What’s in it for you
- Lead high-value, mission-critical data centre projects with real technical depth
- Shape and grow a team, not just manage delivery
- Work directly with senior leadership and key clients
- Influence technical strategy, project direction, and commercial outcomes
- Play a visible role in business growth, including client engagement and fee proposals
- Be part of a collaborative environment where decisions move quickly and your voice is heard
- Clear progression toward Technical Director
What you’ll be doing
- Leading and developing a team of mechanical and multi-disciplinary engineers
- Acting as the technical lead on complex MEP and data centre projects
- Managing full project lifecycle, ensuring delivery aligns with client expectations, timelines, and budgets
- Engaging with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to drive successful outcomes
- Supporting commercial activities including fee proposals, resource planning, and profitability tracking
- Contributing to office leadership and wider business strategy
- Embedding health, safety, and compliance standards across your team
What we’re looking for
- Strong background in mechanical building services design within an MEP consultancy environment
- Proven experience delivering data centre projects or other mission-critical facilities
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams on complex projects
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to manage budgets and project performance
- Confident communicator who can operate at both technical and client-facing levels
- Solid understanding of industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Proficiency in design tools such as AutoCAD, IES, Cymap or similar
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) preferred
