The role advances food safety through detection, traceability, management, and sustainable food supply chains, with research addressing foodborne disease risks.

Appointment rank depends on qualifications and experience; Associate Professor appointment requires scholarly achievement appropriate to that rank.

Teaching and education

  • Develop and deliver course content using contemporary methods, including molecular/genomic methods and data analytics.

  • Supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students and guide thesis and dissertation research in food safety and risk assessment.

Research and scholarly activity

  • Establish an independent, externally funded program in food safety science and quantitative food risk assessment, predictive microbiology, hazard detection, or food safety interventions.
  • Develop innovative approaches to assessing and mitigating health risks in food production, processing, and distribution; work may involve molecular epidemiology, big data, AI, or predictive modeling.
  • Secure external funding and collaborate with university researchers, government agencies, industry, and other stakeholders.
  • Publish in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific conferences, integrating research with teaching and student mentorship.

Service and outreach

  • Participate in departmental, college, and university service, including committees and institutional activities.
  • Engage in professional societies, conferences, and scientific journal editorial roles.
  • Contribute expertise to food industry, regulatory bodies, and community outreach on food safety management and regulatory compliance.

Minimum qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Food Science, Food Safety, Food Microbiology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in food safety and risk assessment, in relevant areas such as microbial risk analysis, food toxicology, foodborne disease epidemiology, detection methods, hazard analysis, predictive microbiology, or microbial ecology.
  • High-quality research productivity demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications; a high Scopus h-index in the relevant research area is expected.
  • Proven capability or clear potential to teach effectively at university level in food safety-related subjects.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills and strong interpersonal abilities for multidisciplinary teamwork.
  • Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence, integrity, diversity, and inclusiveness.

Preferred qualifications

  • Assistant Professor applicants should have postdoctoral research experience from reputable universities or prior professional experience at Assistant Professor rank.
  • Associate Professor applicants should demonstrate established independent scholarship and successful grant acquisition.
  • University teaching experience, grant success, industry/regulatory collaboration, and professional-society involvement or relevant certifications are preferred.

Application materials and timing

  • Submit a cover letter with Scopus ID, Scopus h-index, publication count, Ph.D. university, patents if applicable, supervised Ph.D. and MSc student counts, field-impact weighting if available, and Google Scholar profile link.
  • Also submit a CV, research plan, teaching philosophy and experience statement, and contact information for at least three professional references.
  • The start date is Spring 2026 (January 5, 2026). Applications are reviewed until the position is filled; the listed close date is August 31, 2027.
