About the employer

Saur describes itself as a provider of water and essential services focused on protecting the environment and restoring value to water.

Role overview

The employer is seeking a Mechanical Asset Engineer for Doha, Qatar, reporting to the Asset Manager.

The role manages the technical condition, reliability, availability, and lifecycle optimization of mechanical assets across wastewater treatment plants and associated O&M facilities.

The work focuses on reliability, condition assessment, maintenance optimization, failure analysis, lifecycle planning, asset renewal, and performance improvement.

Asset management and reliability

  • Develop mechanical asset management plans aligned with the overall asset management strategy and manage assets from acquisition and commissioning through operation, maintenance, refurbishment, replacement, and disposal.
  • Maintain accurate asset registers and assess asset health, remaining useful life, criticality, and renewal requirements; conduct FMECA and RCM studies.
  • Monitor pumps, blowers, compressors, gearboxes, mixers, agitators, centrifuges, screens, conveyors, valves, actuators, lifting equipment, and other mechanical assets at treatment plants and pumping stations.
  • Develop preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies; analyze failures, downtime, vibration, lubrication, alignment, balancing, and maintenance history.
  • Support condition monitoring using vibration and oil analysis, lubrication monitoring, alignment, balancing, and other applicable predictive techniques.
  • Lead or support root cause analysis for major failures, monitor corrective actions, and track availability, reliability, failure frequency, downtime, MTBF, MTTR, and maintenance cost.
  • Identify deteriorated, obsolete, inefficient, underperforming, or high-risk assets and recommend renewal, refurbishment, or replacement; assess OEM support, spares, maintainability, and lifecycle risks.

Technical support, data, and improvement

  • Review equipment specifications, datasheets, drawings, technical submissions, and vendor documents; provide technical input to procurement, refurbishment, replacement, upgrades, and commissioning.
  • Review critical mechanical spare-parts needs and recommend strategic or insurance spares; coordinate with operations, maintenance, OEMs, suppliers, contractors, and service providers.
  • Maintain asset information, maintenance history, condition data, and technical documents in CMMS, ERP, or asset management systems.
  • Support lifecycle cost and Total Cost of Ownership assessments and develop replacement and renewal forecasts.
  • Prepare reports on asset condition, reliability, failures, risks, maintenance requirements, replacement priorities, and lifecycle costs.
  • Promote continuous improvement in mechanical reliability, maintenance strategies, energy efficiency, and lifecycle performance.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Typically 5–8 years of relevant experience in mechanical asset management, maintenance, reliability, or engineering.
  • Experience in wastewater treatment, water utilities, process plants, industrial facilities, or O&M is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of pumps, blowers, rotating equipment, mechanical treatment equipment, valves, and maintenance strategies.
  • Experience with condition monitoring, reliability improvement, and CMMS, ERP, or Asset Management Systems.
  • Strong analytical, technical reporting, and problem-solving skills; fluent English.
  • Key competencies include asset lifecycle management, condition and criticality assessment, FMECA, and RCM studies.

Location and work setting

  • The position is for Doha, Qatar, and covers wastewater treatment plants and associated O&M facilities.
