Role overview

Develop system software for HP's Android-based devices, with a focus on BSP engineering, board bring-up, and hardware integration.

Design, implement, and maintain reliable, scalable software systems and collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Android device system software, board support packages, Linux kernel components, and device drivers.
  • Integrate hardware and software, debug system issues, and help ensure system efficiency, reliability, and performance.
  • Work across teams and guide validation planning for new technologies.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less-experienced staff.

Education and experience

  • A four-year or graduate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline is recommended; commensurate experience or demonstrated competence may substitute.
  • Typically 7–10 years of related work experience is recommended.

Technical qualifications

  • Strong analytical and programming skills in C, C++, Java, or Kotlin; Linux kernel and board bring-up expertise.
  • Hands-on kernel and driver development across interfaces including I2C, USB, SPI, eMMC, display, touch, MIPI, PCIe, GPU, and GPIO.
  • Knowledge of operating-system concepts, multithreaded and multicore environments, Android security, CPU scheduling, and memory and power management.
  • Debugging and profiling experience on Android or embedded platforms; tools listed include Lauterbach, gdb, perfetto, and system trace.
  • Android HAL adaptation, ARM SoC experience, and on-device AI acceleration are pluses.

Tools and additional knowledge

  • Knowledge of source control and developer tools including GitHub, Perforce, ClearCase, Android Studio, and Visual Studio.
