Role overview
The Yard Operative supports the safe, efficient and organised operation of the traffic management depot.
The role reports to the Depot Manager and handles, inspects, maintains, stores and prepares equipment for operational use.
The position supports depot and site operations through stock control, equipment preparation and safe working practices.
Key responsibilities
- Receive, check, load, unload, clean, inspect, prepare and store temporary traffic management equipment.
- Produce advance warning signage, record equipment movements and update inventory information using company systems as required.
- Manage batteries and charging equipment safely, monitor charging and store charged items correctly.
- Check and test portable traffic signals and associated equipment, allocate items and ensure they are ready for deployment.
- Maintain safe, clean and orderly yard and charging areas; report damaged equipment, faults and safety concerns.
- Work with depot and operational colleagues to keep equipment available and depot operations compliant and efficient.
Working expectations
- Follow company procedures, risk assessments, health and safety requirements and relevant legislation.
- Use PPE appropriately, maintain housekeeping standards and handle equipment safely.
- Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with the Depot Manager, depot colleagues and operational teams.
- Complete equipment checks, signal testing, stock movements, charging bay checks and documentation accurately.
