About This Role
Role Overview
The WordPress & WooCommerce eCommerce Developer is responsible for building, customizing, and maintaining a full-scale eCommerce platform using WordPress and WooCommerce. This role focuses on configuring WooCommerce, developing custom features through plugins/themes, integrating third-party systems, and ensuring the platform is secure, scalable, and optimized for high-volume transactions. The developer will transform business requirements into a fully functional online store with seamless user experience and robust backend operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. WooCommerce Platform Development
· Set up and configure WooCommerce for end-to-end eCommerce operations (products, checkout, shipping, taxes, coupons, etc.).
· Customize WooCommerce templates, hooks, and filters to meet business requirements.
· Extend WooCommerce functionality through custom plugins or theme functions.
2. WordPress Development
· Develop custom WordPress themes or child themes aligned with UI/UX requirements.
· Implement responsive, accessible, and SEO-optimized front-end layouts.
· Manage WordPress core, theme, and plugin updates while ensuring compatibility.
3. Custom Plugin Development
· Build custom plugins to add new features not available in WooCommerce or existing extensions.
· Modify or extend existing plugins while maintaining upgrade-safe practices.
· Implement secure coding standards and follow WordPress development best practices.
4. Integrations & APIs
· Integrate WooCommerce with payment gateways, ERP, CRM, logistics, SMS gateways, and marketing tools.
· Build REST API endpoints or consume external APIs for real-time data exchange.
· Implement webhooks and automation workflows.
5. Performance, Security & Optimization
· Optimize site speed, caching, database queries, and overall performance.
· Implement security hardening measures for WordPress and WooCommerce.
· Ensure platform stability for high-traffic and high-transaction environments.
6. Testing, QA & Maintenance
· Conduct functional, regression, and performance testing.
· Troubleshoot issues related to checkout, payments, plugins, or theme conflicts.
· Provide ongoing maintenance, updates, and enhancements.

Required Skills & Qualifications
· Strong proficiency in PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3.
· Deep understanding of WordPress core, WooCommerce architecture, hooks, filters, and template hierarchy.
· Experience building custom plugins and custom WooCommerce features.
· Familiarity with REST APIs, JSON, OAuth, and third-party integrations.
· Experience with Git, CI/CD workflows, and staging environments.
· Knowledge of security best practices for WordPress and eCommerce.
· Ability to optimize for speed, scalability, and reliability.
