Unit Supervisor of Lighting & Design
About This Role
Job Summary We are looking for a talented and experienced individual to
lead our lighting department, combining the creative vision of a Lighting
Designer, the technical proficiency of a Lighting Operator, and the leadership
skills of a Department Head. This role requires full ownership of the lighting
process—from concept and design to setup, operation, and supervision ensuring
world-class lighting for every event and project.
Key Responsibilities Design & Creative Direction:
- Develop lighting concepts and designs based on event
themes.
- Create lighting plots, 3D visualizations, and technical
drawings using design software.
Technical Operation
- Program and operate lighting consoles (MA Lighting,
Avolites, Chamsys).
- Set up, test, and focus lighting fixtures and control
systems.
- Troubleshoot technical issues.
- Ensure proper signal distribution (DMX, Art-Net, sACN,
etc.) and system integration.
Leadership & Management
- Lead and manage the lighting team, including freelancers
and technicians.
- Plan and oversee all lighting logistics, rigging, and
power distribution.
- Ensure all lighting elements are installed safely and
efficiently.
- Coordinate with production, sound, video, and stage teams
for seamless integration.
- Maintain and update inventory of lighting equipment and
ensure regular maintenance.
- Train team members on equipment usage, safety protocols,
and new technologies.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in lighting design,
operation, and team leadership.
- Deep knowledge of lighting equipment.
- Proficiency in lighting design and visualizer software (Vectorworks,
WYSIWYG, Capture).
- Strong programming skills on professional consoles (MA,
Avolites, Chamsys, etc.).
- Excellent understanding of power loads, cable management,
and rigging safety.
- Ability to lead a team, manage timelines, and work under
pressure.
- Strong communication, organization, and documentation
skills.
- Fluent in industry protocols and standards.
- Physically fit and able to work in fast-paced
environments, including travel and long hours.
- Previous experience in large-scale events, concerts,
exhibitions, or theatrical productions.
Working Conditions
- On-site work in various environments including indoor
venues, outdoor locations, and temporary structures.
- Requires flexibility in working hours, including nights,
weekends, and holidays depending on event schedules.
- May involve travel and physical labor including lifting
and climbing.
