Role overview

Architecture responsibilities

• Develop enterprise technology and infrastructure architecture aligned with business strategy and enterprise architecture direction.
• Assess compute, storage, network, virtualization, operating systems, hosting, and shared technology services.
• Define target-state architecture, transition roadmaps, standards, reference architectures, principles, patterns, and approved portfolios.
• Design scalable, resilient, secure, and highly available on-premises, private cloud, public cloud, and hybrid infrastructure.
• Assess capacity, utilization, performance, availability, lifecycle status, obsolescence, end-of-life risks, and technical debt.
• Define backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, high availability, and fault-tolerance architecture requirements.
• Support LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, data center networking, connectivity, segmentation, server, storage, virtualization, container, and platform architecture.
• Collaborate with cloud, security, application, integration, data, and solution architects on coherent end-to-end architecture.
• Support platform selection, vendor evaluation, technical assessments, and solution reviews; participate in governance and design reviews.
• Define monitoring, observability, capacity management, and operational architecture requirements; support data center modernization and transformation.

Required experience

• At least 10 years in infrastructure engineering, systems engineering, network engineering, cloud, data center, or related technology disciplines.
• At least 5 years of hands-on Infrastructure Architecture, Technology Architecture, or comparable senior design experience.
• Demonstrated experience designing complex enterprise infrastructure environments.
• Experience with data centers, compute, storage, virtualization, networking, cloud, and hybrid architectures.
• Experience supporting large-scale infrastructure modernization, migration, transformation, or consolidation programs.
• Strong experience working with vendors, infrastructure teams, security teams, and senior stakeholders.

Core competencies

• Enterprise technology and infrastructure architecture, including compute, server, storage, network, virtualization, container, cloud, hybrid, and data center architecture.
• High availability, resilience, disaster recovery, business continuity, lifecycle and obsolescence management, infrastructure security, and segmentation.
• Architecture governance and assurance, technology evaluation, and vendor assessment.

Preferred frameworks and qualifications

• Preferred frameworks and methods include TOGAF, ArchiMate, ITIL, COBIT, cloud architecture frameworks, well-architected principles, and infrastructure and data center architecture practices.
• DevOps and Infrastructure-as-Code concepts and high-availability, disaster-recovery, and resilience design principles are preferred.
• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
• TOGAF and cloud architecture certifications are highly desirable; relevant networking, virtualization, infrastructure, data center, or platform certifications are advantageous.

Preferred tools and technology exposure

• Enterprise architecture tools may include Bizzdesign, Sparx Enterprise Architect, Orbus/iServer, ARIS, or similar platforms.
• Preferred exposure includes VMware, Hyper-V, Docker, Kubernetes, Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, enterprise server and storage, backup, data center, networking, security, monitoring, and observability technologies.
