Role overview

The Technical Business Analyst translates financial-services requirements into specifications that engineering teams can build from.

The role supports software delivery from requirements and solution design through testing, launch and product improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Gather stakeholder requirements, translate them into technical requirements, and keep delivery within scope and schedule.
  • Design feasible technical solutions and identify risks or limitations early.
  • Document functional specifications, system requirements, workflows, UML diagrams, user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Bridge business stakeholders and technical teams, clarify requirements during development, and coordinate third-party dependencies.
  • Collaborate with QA on test cases and quality benchmarks; assist with UAT and validate business outcomes.
  • Recommend process and system improvements, monitor product performance after deployment, and support project delivery.
  • Use AI tools such as Claude for analysis, documentation and workflow automation, critically checking outputs.

Qualifications and experience

  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or a related field is required.
  • At least eight years of hands-on business analysis experience in a software development environment, including exposure to technical development processes.
  • Deep knowledge of banking and mobile money; experience writing requirements for financial systems is also described as preferred.
  • Experience producing detailed business and technical specifications, user stories and acceptance criteria; proficiency in the SDLC.
  • Understanding of Agile and Waterfall, and familiarity with project-management tools such as JIRA.
  • Experience creating UML use-case, activity, sequence and class diagrams and process-flow diagrams.
  • Understanding of software principles, databases and web technologies, with examples including SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and APIs.
  • Proficiency with requirements tools such as Microsoft Office, MS Visio, Adobe XD, Confluence or specialist business-analysis tools.
  • Strong English communication for documentation, reports and meetings; analytical thinking, early problem identification and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines and adapt to changes in project scope or timelines.
  • CBAP, PMI-PBA or a related business-analysis certification is strongly preferred.
  • AI/LLM and prompt-evaluation experience is a plus; Postman is an advantage, and payment-rail, PCI-DSS, data-protection or Power BI knowledge is advantageous.

Technical knowledge

  • The role involves requirements management, software development concepts, databases, web technologies, APIs, UML and third-party integrations with telcos, payment gateways and banking partners.
