Role overview

Hands-on engineering role designing, modernizing, and sustaining integrations for a globally deployed identity and mobility platform.

Work spans standards-based and custom integrations, edge clusters, centralized deployments, and cloud-forward AWS architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain secure, reliable third-party integrations through REST APIs, asynchronous messaging, secure data exchange, and device interfaces.
  • Modernize legacy interfaces into Java microservices and build for edge, data-center, and AWS deployments.
  • Engineer for resilience, observability, auditability, latency, and intermittent or low-bandwidth networks.
  • Integrate identity and verification services, traveler-data platforms, biometric and document-capture peripherals, and access-control and gate systems.
  • Define interface contracts, schemas, versioning, retries, idempotency, certification, and testing approaches.
  • Troubleshoot across application, data, messaging, and network layers; collaborate with software, cloud, network, QA, field engineering, analytics, and security teams.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 12 years of software engineering or systems integration experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience building Java-based distributed services and production API integrations and event-driven messaging.
  • Experience with one or more of RabbitMQ, Kafka, JMS, AMQP or similar; MongoDB, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch or comparable data platforms; or AWS production deployment and operations.
  • Experience supporting integrations in high-availability, mission-critical, or regulated environments.
  • Understanding of authentication and authorization, certificate-based security, schema evolution, error handling and retries, observability, and supportability.
  • Experience modernizing legacy or monolithic integrations into service-oriented or microservices architectures.
  • Collaborative engineering approach and ownership of delivery outcomes.

Preferred qualifications

  • HashiCorp tooling, especially Consul, Nomad, and Vault, or transferable adjacent-platform experience.
  • AWS-native services and infrastructure automation; ELK, Grafana, Kibana, Logstash, or other observability stacks.
  • Integration of biometric devices, document readers, cameras, license plate readers, or other field peripherals.
  • Experience in degraded, disconnected, or low-bandwidth environments.
