SWITCHGEAR DESIGN & ESTIMATION ENGINEER

Job Summary

1. Cost Estimation & BOQ Preparation

• Prepare detailed Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for switchgear projects, including all electrical
• components, materials, and accessories.
• Perform accurate cost estimation and project budgeting based on technical drawings and client
• specifications.
• Evaluate vendor quotations and ensure cost-effective selection of materials and components.
• Support tendering and pricing activities for switchgear projects.

2. LV Switchgear Design Engineering

• Develop and review Single Line Diagrams (SLD), GA drawings, schematic diagrams, and wiring
• diagrams for LV panels.
• Design MDB, SMDB, MCC, PCC, capacitor bank panels, and distribution systems as per project
• requirements.
• Ensure proper busbar sizing, short circuit withstand capability, and thermal performance
• calculations.
• Select appropriate protection devices, breakers, relays, and control components.
• Optimize panel internal layouts for manufacturability, safety, and compliance.
• Use CAD tools such as AutoCAD Electrical / EPLAN for design development.

3. Standards Compliance

• Ensure all designs comply with IEC 61439, IEC standards, and TTA/PTTA requirements.
• Maintain compliance with UAE utility regulations including DEWA, ADDC, AADC, and other
• authority requirements.
• Stay updated with international electrical design standards and switchgear industry best
• practices.

4. Technical Documentation

• Prepare complete technical submittals for client approval and consultant review.
• Develop material submittals, datasheets, and compliance documents.
• Maintain accurate design documentation including revision control and drawing history.
• Support preparation of as-built drawings and project handover documentation.

5. Project Coordination & Support

• Coordinate with production, procurement, and project execution teams for design
• implementation.
• Provide technical support during manufacturing, testing, and commissioning stages.
• Resolve design-related issues arising during fabrication or site installation.
• Participate in design review meetings with clients, consultants, and internal teams.

6. Continuous Improvement

• Improve design standards, templates, and drafting procedures for efficiency.
• Suggest cost optimization opportunities in design and material selection.
• Stay updated with new switchgear technologies, CAD tools, and automation systems.

Required Skills & Knowledge

• Strong knowledge of LV switchgear systems (MDB, SMDB, MCC, PCC).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and/or EPLAN P8.
• Knowledge of IEC 61439 and UAE utility standards (DEWA, ADDC, AADC).
• Experience in electrical estimation and BOQ preparation.
• Understanding of short circuit, busbar sizing, and protection coordination.
• Strong technical drawing interpretation skills.
