SURGICAL TECHNICIAN
Role Overview
POSITION SUMMARY Position Summary: Under the direction and supervision of the professional nurse in charge of the department, the surgical technician assembles needed supplies/equipment before and during the surgical procedure while maintaining standards of care established for the patient scheduled for a surgical procedure. The surgical technician sets up the sterile field, assists with draping the patient, anticipates the surgeon's needs and hands sterile supplies and instruments to the surgeon and his/her assistant. Skillfully practices sterile technique. Assists the nurses in providing quality patient care and informs the nurse about any significant changes. This includes taking vital signs, transporting patients, and helping the professional nurse with interventions. The surgical technician also interacts with other departments, performs cleaning, and restocks supplies, all under the direction of the professional nurse.
