What You’ll Do
- Position Summary: The Patient Care Associate (PCA)/Student Nurse/Unit Secretary provides high
- quality, direct patient care to an assigned group of patients. This includes, but is not limited to: activities
- of daily living, utilization of safe patient handling equipment, measure and document intake and output,
- foley removal, external urinary catheter management, telemetry monitor set up, blood glucose
- monitoring, oxygen set up and tasks delegated per scope of practice and skill set. This position may also
- provide clerical support to the care team including acting as a liaison facilitating communication with or
- between other care providers and visitors directly or via telephone. This individual works collaboratively
- with other care team members including the patient and family, and participates collaboratively with RN
- to achieve optimal outcomes. The PCA/Student Nurse/ Unit Secretary has access to confidential patient
- information, must communicate with all team members regarding care provided by them to the
- assigned patient group and carries out daily activities under the direct supervision of a Patient Care
- Coordinator / Registered Nurse, RN or Assistant Nurse Manager and indirect supervision of the Nurse
- Manager or Director.
Minimum Qualifications
- Required Educational Degree: STNA
- Major/Area of Concentration
- months Nursing assistant experience OR Successful completion of STNA prep course OR PCA prep course
- OR Student Nurse Experience

Preferred Education
- Completion of Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.), Patient Care Tech, STNA or
- equivalent program preferred or currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing for Student Nurse
- designation. Phlebotomy training preferred.
- Preferred Certifications, Credentials and Licenses: Current licensure/certification as applicable.
- Preferred Experience: 1-2 years Direct Patient Care and Clerical experience/Medical Terminology. 6
