What You Will Accomplish
- Design, build, and operate Apache Flink and Apache Kafka control planes and data planes across multi-cluster Kubernetes environments.
- Lead real-time streaming lakehouse storage architecture for low-latency analytical workloads at massive scale.
- Drive high availability, automated fault recovery, and zero-downtime operations for production streaming topologies.
- Advance monitoring, distributed tracing, automated alerting, and failure-diagnosis tooling.
- Partner with global architecture and platform teams to shape eBay’s real-time data ecosystem.
- Build production-grade software with AI coding agents while maintaining quality, availability, and maintainability.
- Provide AI coding agents with context, specifications, constraints, and validation criteria.
- Capture business, architecture, codebase, and operational knowledge for accurate autonomous execution.
Core Experience
- Deep hands-on background in data structures, concurrency, operating system internals, and networking.
- Strong expertise in Java, Rust, or C++.
- Strong hands-on experience developing, tuning, and operating Apache Flink at scale.
- Proven Apache Kafka or Pulsar/RocketMQ experience covering broker architecture, partition strategy, and control and data plane management.
- Experience running high-throughput stateful workloads on Kubernetes across hybrid or private cloud environments.
- Familiarity with Apache Paimon, Apache Iceberg, or Apache Fluss.
AI Coding Experience
- Demonstrated proficiency building production-grade software with AI coding agents.
- Ability to decompose problems and provide agents with appropriate context, specifications, constraints, and validation criteria.
- Ability to document business, architecture, codebase, and operational knowledge for AI agents.
- Hands-on experience using production AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Codex.
Nice to Have
- Experience writing custom Kubernetes operators or control planes for distributed data systems.
- Deep knowledge of embedded storage engines such as RocksDB or LevelDB.
- Active open-source contributions to Apache Flink, Apache Kafka, Apache Paimon, or related projects.
