Staff/Lead Python Engineer (FastAPI, Orchestration)

Role and teams

What you will do

• Write resilient Python applications that integrate within a service architecture.
• Improve developer experience through mentoring and maintainable coding practices.
• Develop observability for ML applications and GenAI/LLM integrations using Prometheus, Loki, and Tempo.
• Build integrations and services communicating with Google Services.
• Partner with Data Scientists and ML Engineers to productionize models.
• Triage ML-application incidents, including CPU, memory, and GPU utilization issues.
• Document procedures, share knowledge, pair with engineers, and mentor team members.
• Participate in hiring and onboarding and take on end-to-end project management.

Required qualifications

• At least 8 years of software engineering experience and prior Lead/Staff/Principal-level responsibilities.
• Strong Python and backend-engineering proficiency, including async and concurrent programming.
• Experience owning projects end to end, from specification and architecture through deployment, release, and monitoring.
• Strong maintainable-testing skills and experience with observability and tracing.
• Knowledge of performance optimization and memory-management best practices.
• Experience mentoring others in software-development practices, patterns, and fundamentals.
• Fluent English and ability to communicate complex ideas and trade-offs effectively.

Preferred experience

• Founding or early engineering-team experience is a plus.
• Experience in a fast-growing scale-up is a plus.
• GCP experience is a plus.

Location and work style

• Fully remote position for candidates based in the UK, Europe, or the Americas within UTC-7 to UTC+3.
