Staff Engineer – Continuous Product Development

Role overview

Workplace and compensation

• Hybrid arrangement with at least three of five working days onsite in Cheltenham; the role is primarily based onsite, with business travel required.
• Base salary up to £62,000, subject to skills and experience, plus company bonus, private healthcare, and pension scheme.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional design projects and self-started improvement initiatives through implementation and benefit realisation.
• Own value engineering and lifecycle cost improvements while maintaining safety, compliance, and product performance.
• Investigate complex product issues, determine root causes, assess risks, and guide engineering changes and approvals.
• Use customer feedback, warranty trends, and field performance to identify and evaluate improvements.
• Support NPD-to-CPD handovers and improve engineering methods, standards, and processes.
• Coach and guide less-experienced engineers through design reviews and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• Relevant engineering degree, apprenticeship, or equivalent professional qualification.
• Typically more than six years of engineering experience, including complex product or design changes in a regulated or quality-controlled environment.
• Proven project leadership from concept through detailed design, validation, and implementation.
• Experience in root cause analysis, risk assessment, validation planning, and controlled engineering documentation.
• Strong decision-making and prioritisation across customer, technical, and business needs.
