Company and role

Serve Robotics develops sidewalk robots for commercial deliveries and is seeking an engineer to grow its robotics platform.

The role combines hands-on software development with systems-level problem solving, technical design, and cross-functional collaboration.

Platform engineering

  • Develop and maintain robotics middleware and application frameworks in modern C++ on embedded Linux.
  • Own platform components through design, implementation, testing, validation, deployment, and fleet operation.
  • Work with software, autonomy, systems, and hardware teams to address reliability, performance, safety, and developer experience.

Reliability and technical leadership

  • Translate safety and reliability needs into software behavior, interfaces, and verification strategies; investigate complex system-level failures.
  • Build performance benchmarks, instrumentation, logging, tracing, and fleet-health metrics.
  • Lead design and code reviews, contribute to engineering practices, and mentor other engineers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including significant production development in C++17 or newer.
  • Embedded Linux systems development and debugging experience; strong knowledge of concurrency, synchronization, IPC, and systems software.
  • Experience designing for latency-sensitive, safety-related, real-time, or high-reliability systems and optimizing embedded software.
  • Strong troubleshooting across software and hardware boundaries, communication, and cross-functional collaboration.

Additional experience that stands out

  • Robotics or autonomous-vehicle middleware, NVIDIA Jetson, Linux internals, fault-tolerant architecture, failure-mode analysis, or functional safety.
  • Distributed systems, networking, RPC, Protocol Buffers, FlatBuffers, Cap’n Proto, fleet observability, or embedded sensor integration.

Work arrangement

  • The role may occasionally require access to robotics hardware or onsite participation in integration, testing, troubleshooting, or validation.

Compensation

  • Compensation range is $167,800–$204,000 annually.
