The SQL Developer supports a major client project in a structured consulting delivery model.
The role designs performant SQL assets and data models, tunes application queries, and collaborates with analysts, product teams, and engineering.
The position is fixed-term, located in London, and offers hybrid working.
SQL engineering and data design
- Design, build, and optimize SQL tables, views, stored procedures, functions, and ETL/ELT logic.
- Develop logical and physical data models and maintain ERDs and data dictionaries.
- Tune performance using indexing, partitioning, and query optimization.
- Implement validation rules, constraints, and reconciliation checks for data quality.
Pipelines and environments
- Contribute to ETL/ELT pipelines and environment promotion using standardized patterns.
- Use Git and CI/CD workflows for database changes.
- Partner with platform and DevOps teams on capacity, monitoring, and backup and recovery strategies.
Delivery and collaboration
- Follow structured delivery practices, documentation, peer reviews, testing, and quality checkpoints.
- Participate in Agile stand-ups, planning, and retrospectives.
- Translate requirements into SQL designs with business analysts, product owners, and downstream consumers.
- Support UAT, investigate defects, and resolve logic issues.
- Produce runbooks and knowledge-transfer materials and follow governance and security standards.
Required skills and experience
- Advanced SQL development experience using T-SQL, PL/SQL, or an equivalent, with strong performance-tuning skills.
- Strong data-modeling knowledge, including star and snowflake schemas, indexing strategies, and optimization.
- Experience in structured consulting or delivery environments with clear processes and standards.
- Understanding of CI/CD, Git or other version control, and database change management.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
